Student’s ‘Bad Hair’ Day, Even Worse for School

Multiple media outlets are reporting a 7-year-old girl in Tulsa, Oklahoma was kicked out of school because her hair wasn’t “presentable”.

She has dreads. Evidently the school basically says you must conform to white hair styles in order to look OK in their book. Here is the charter school’s dress code:

hairstyles such as dreadlocks, afros, mohawks, and other faddish styles are unacceptable.

Apparently, many people are offended and took to the school’s Facebook page. It now looks like the small school has taken down their Facebook page  after the large outcry.

So here’s the thing. The school’s rules were in place when the little girl’s parents enrolled her. However, it’s 2013! How can a rule like this STILL be in place?
