The Bitterroot National Forest is starting its spring burning projects, mainly in the south end of Ravalli County. Tod McKay of the Bitterroot forest said that the first burn was a 200-acre fire east of Sula near Guide Creek. He wrote in a news release that most of the fires will be set in the next few weeks, weather permitting. The burns will take care of some slash piles from forest projects and also will be low-level fires that will reduce downed timber that can increase the severity of wildfires. Most of the smoke produced will last only a couple of days.
