We Can’t Wait to Show You Our ‘Suicide Squad’ Facts
Here’s one small sneak peek into our madness: everyone has heard at least in passing about the method approach that Jared Leto brought to his role as the Joker, but the dynamic onset was apparently a little more complex than the soundbites might suggest. According to Suicide Squad star Viola Davis, the dedication that Jared Leto brought to the role had two effects: one, it made everyone — including his friend and costar Scott Eastwood — afraid to interact with him, and two, it made each of them want to be at the top of their game. In one case, Leto mailed a live rat to Harley Quinn actress Margot Robbie, eliciting the scream that he wanted… but Robbie also had the last laugh by adopting the rat as her new pet.
Michael Fassbender Promises a ‘Super Scary’ ‘Alien: Covenant’
Looking back, I’m not really sure there was ever a winning proposition for Ridley Scott’s Prometheus. The stakes were high enough when we only thought that Prometheus was a big-budget science-fiction movie for one of the genre’s great pioneers; once we learned that Prometheus would also serve as a prequel of sorts to the Alien universe, the film never stood a chance. Of course, Prometheus did not do itself any favors by awkwardly tying together Alien mythology with Interstellar-esque futurism, but maybe in a few years we’ll look back on the film with a little more fondness.
Margot Robbie to Go Crazy (Again) in Science-Fiction Thriller ‘Bad Monkeys’
With all eyes turned towards Comic-Con and Suicide Squad this week, even the most die-hard Margot Robbie fans would be forgiven for missing out on another bit of casting news with the popular actress. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Robbie has signed on to both produce and star in the science-fiction thriller Bad Monkeys for Universal Pictures. The movie is an adaptation of the 2007 novel of the same name by author Matt Ruff.
21 New ‘Suicide Squad’ Photos Released at Comic-Con
With Suicide Squad only a few weeks away, Warner Bros. and DC Films knew they didn’t need to go big at Comic-Con International this year, only nudge us just a little bit more in the right direction. To that end, their big reveals weren’t new so much as improved: a new trailer cut to emphasize the film’s soundtrack and a new batch of publicity photos showing off the film’s key characters.
The New Season of ‘Mystery Science Theater 3000’ Is Headed to Netflix
If someone asked me to trace my personal development as a cinephile, I’m pretty sure that Mystery Science Theater 3000 would be one of the most important stops along the way. I grew up watching the show; it instilled in me an appreciation for pointless pop culture knowledge as well as an affection for so-called bad movies. Mike, Joel and the bots may have spent their time mocking ’70s and ’80s films, but there was always an undercurrent of good cheer and low-budget kinship that I admired.
James Cameron Weighs In on the ‘Alien 5’ Screenplay
While many people stood in line for Marvel’s big announcements at Comic-Con International , other science-fiction fans were being treated to a panel discussion on the 30th anniversary of Aliens. Director James Cameron and his cast and crew talked about the experience of making the original film, but those also interested in the future of the franchise were treated to Cameron’s first impression of the oft-delayed Neill Blomkamp Alien 5.
First ‘King Arthur: Legend of the Sword’ Trailer Gives Us Medieval GoPro Action
With only a scant few publicity photos to go off of, this first trailer for Guy Ritchie’s King Arthur: Legend of the Sword represents our first real look at universe that Ritchie and his cast are creating. And if there is a recipe for the film, it seems to be this: take the legend of King Arthur, overlay it with Ritchie’s signature kinetic energetic fight sequences and street-smart humor, and cast every beloved character actor from Game of Thrones you can get your hand on. Movies have done far worse with a whole lot better.
J.J. Abrams Calls the Next ‘Star Trek’ Script ‘Amazing’
Does it seem rude to talk about the next Star Trek movie while Star Trek Beyond is still in theaters? I sort of feel bad. While Matt Singer may have enjoyed the movie a little more than me, Star Trek Beyond is still a pretty fun ride and deserves at least a few days of appreciation before we move right along to the next thing. Part of me feels like I’m going over to my coworker’s desk the day he announces his retirement so I can pick through his things and claim them for my own cubicle. Then again, maybe if my coworker didn’t want his stuff stolen, he shouldn’t have announced his retirement so early. So that makes it J.J. Abrams’s fault.
‘Hands of Stone’ Trailer: Robert De Niro Trains the Perfect Fighter
To say that Robert De Niro needs a hit movie isn’t exactly true. De Niro has been responsible for so many iconic films and characters over his 50 years of acting that he has pretty much earned the right to do whatever he pleases. If he wants to make sex comedies with Zac Efron, he can make sex comedies with Zac Ephron. If wants to only pop in for guest appearances in David O. Russell films, well, hey, he can do that to.
‘Sausage Party’ Hits Comic-Con With New Red Band Trailer
Where were you when you first found out that Seth Rogen was making an animated movie about sex-crazed foodstuffs? I don’t think it’s too much of an exaggeration to say that this will be the kind of moment that defines a generation. Grizzled old men will sit around campfires and tell bright-eyed children wondrous stories about the Before Time, a time when animated movies were for children and food was just a thing you ate. The world is much different now.
Marvel Reveals ‘Planet Hulk’ Armor for ‘Thor: Ragnarok’
A few months ago, we cautiously reported on some new rumors that had the previously discarded Planet Hulk storyline finding its way into Thor: Ragnarok. According to the rumors, the newest film starring everyone’s favorite God of Thunder would include a scene where Thor and the Hulk both find themselves competing in a galactic arena; they then join forces to seek out a weapon Thor needs to defend Asgard. While we had our doubts — the Hollywood rumor game is a fickle beast — this rumor made enough sense that it seemed like a good time to bring it up.
Lionsgate Releases New ‘Power Rangers’ Character Photos
If you take a look at the official Power Rangers photos released by Lionsgate to this point, it’s easy to see the pattern they have in mind. First came a group shot of the cast out of costume, then came a group shot of the cast in costume. This past week, Lionsgate released individual character posters on its Instagram channel for each of the new cast members, as well as a new photo of Elizabeth Banks in her Rita Repulsa get-up. I’m not a betting man, but if this pattern holds, I’d keep an eye out for some individualized photos of the Power Rangers costumes before too long
