Morgan Freeman Joins the Cast of Disney’s Live-Action ‘The Nutcracker’
Earlier this week, we learned that Disney had officially cast Interstellar actress Mackenzie Foy as Clara in their upcoming live-action adaptation of The Nutcracker. You can now add another name to that cast: according to The Hollywood Reporter, Morgan Freeman is in talks to join the movie as the mysterious and whimsical Drosselmeyer. Fingers crossed that this means we will get a Morgan Freeman dance number in the new movie.
Watch the Highlights From the ‘Suicide Squad’ Twitter Q&A
Yesterday, the cast and director of Suicide Squad took to Twitter to answer fans’ questions about the upcoming movie. And while many of the questions were geared towards the actors’ relationships with the superhero franchise — their favorite characters, superpowers, or questions as to who would win in a fight between the various heroes and villains of the DC universe — there were a few questions that offered the cast and a crew a chance to either dive deep into the filmmaking experience or just have some fun with the answer. I’ve listed a few of my favorites below, but you can view the full Q&A at the official Suicide Squad Twitter page.
Dwayne Johnson Offers Us a Behind the Scenes Look at ‘Fast 8’
Few movie stars understand the power of social media quite as well as Dwayne Johnson. Whether he’s using his Instagram account to announce upcoming projects or putting together a teaser trailer for a brand new YouTube channel, the artist formerly known as The Rock takes every chance he can to connect with his fans and give them a chance to see what life is like for one of Hollywood’s most in-demand movie stars.
Marvel Announces ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ Title Change
Back in May, Joe and Anthony Russo announced that Avengers: Infinity War - Part 1 and Avengers: Infinity War - Part 2 were due for a name change. According to the Marvel directors, the two films were shaping up to tell two very separate stories, and keeping them grouped under the same subtitle would be misleading to fans. This name change became a reality on Friday, with The Hollywood Reporter announcing that Disney had renamed the former as Avengers: Infinity War and scratched the name for the latter entirely.
Second Trailer for ‘The Accountant’ Still Puts Everything In Its Right Place
Never underestimate the importance of the right song to your trailer. In the first trailer for The Accountant, we got our first glimpse at Ben Affleck’s killer set to the haunting dissonance of Radiohead’s “Everything In Its Right Place.” And while Britt may have been right — the track may have been just a little too on the nose — gosh darn it, the whole thing just worked. Now Warner Bros. is back with a brand new trailer that teases out a little more information about the title character but kept the Radiohead song. Everything in its right place, indeed.
Michael Keaton Thinks the ‘Beetlejuice 2’ Ship Has Sailed
How’s this for awkward timing: just as an entire generation of moviegoers are rediscovering their love for Winona Ryder thanks to Stranger Things, her chances at reappearing in the role that made her famous may be dying on the vine. The last time we checked in on Beetlejuice 2, it was Ryder who thought the sequel might actually be happening. Now it is Michael Keaton, her costar from the original film, who seems determined to put the final nail in the coffin.
‘Rogue One’ Team Shoots Down Han Solo and Anakin Skywalker Rumors
Since spending the GDP of a small country to acquire the Star Wars rights from George Lucas, Disney has done its best to wipe the slate clean of decades of accumulated fan theories and speculation. Under the guidance of Kathleen Kennedy and the rest of LucasFilm, the new creative team has streamlined the canon, narrowed down the list of key characters for the sequels, and otherwise done it’s best to mark a new course for the Star Wars franchise. So when a new set of rumors began to surface at Star Wars Celebration Europe this past month, it was no surprise that the official response was immediate and firm.
‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ Sequels Could Borrow the ‘Harry Potter’ Timeline
One of the big selling points for Spider-Man: Homecoming was that the Marvel Cinematic Universe would be returning Peter Parker to his roots as a high school science nerd. While the Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield movies, by the nature of their casting decisions, focused a bit more on Parker’s college and post-college experiences, the Tom Holland-led reboot of the Spider-Man franchise would set out to tell a true superhero coming of age story.
Edgar Wright Somehow Finds the Time to Make a List of His 1,000 Favorite Films
What are your ten favorite movies of all time? While it isn’t the easiest question to answer, odds are that a few contenders pop immediately to mind; if we gave you an hour or three to weigh each title carefully, you might even be able to put together a list that makes you reasonably happy. But what if we asked you to put together a list of your favorite 100 movies? What if we asked you for a thousand? It’s the sort of thing that could become all-consuming, forcing you to first watch every movie that you feel would probably be on the list.
Watch Matt Damon Recap the Original ‘Bourne’ Trilogy in 90 Seconds
If you’re like me, even after all these years, you can still remember everything that happened in The Bourne Identity pretty clearly. It’s when you get to The Bourne Supremacy that things start to get a little fuzzy. I remember an early scene in the second film where Matt Damon’s Bourne and Franka Potente’s Marie are ambushed by Karl Urban’s Treadstone assassin, and then some sort of car chase in an Eastern European city, but that’s about the last major plot point I can keep straight in my head. Was Brian Cox in the second film? Didn’t the third film have some sort of investigative journalist? Did Bourne actually ever get his memory back in the three films? Does The Bourne Legacy even matter at all?
New ‘Dunkirk’ Set Photos Show a Battle-Tested Harry Styles
A few months ago, we shared some of the incredible location footage for Christopher Nolan’s upcoming World War II thriller Dunkirk. With principal photography now underway, Dunkirk fans have also gotten their first look at a few of the cast members in costume. You can view all the behind-the-scenes photos courtesy of The Daily Mail, but here are a few of the ones that have made their way to social media. And you may not be surprised to discover that they focused on one young heartthrob in particular.
Asa Butterfield Will Come of Age in ‘The House of Tomorrow’
It must have been a dark day for Asa Butterfield when he found out that it would be Tom Holland, not him, that had been cast as the lead character in Spider-Man: Homecoming. How exactly does one properly mourn missing out on a career-defining role when you’re only 18? All those countless hours of costumes and hanging upside down from a tangle of wires, not to mention the strict diet and daily workout routine. Come to think of it, maybe Butterfield wasn’t that upset after all. Eat a brownie, kid, because you can.
