New ‘Rogue One’ Trailer to Premiere During Olympics on Thursday
If the prospect of watching thousands of athletes from over 200 countries compete for sporting immortality wasn’t enough to get you watching, there is now another reason for you to turn on the Olympics this week. According to a short teaser that ran during today’s events, NBC will be airing a brand new trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story as part of their Thursday night lineup. Here is one of the teasers (via Heroic Hollywood).
Nicolas Cage Steals Another Baby in the First ‘Dog Eat Dog’ Trailer
Paul Schrader is a living Hollywood legend. Even if the man never wrote or directed another movie, his work as a screenwriter for Martin Scorsese — which includes Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, The Last Temptation of Christ, and Bringing Out the Dead — would ensure his legacy for generations to come. Thankfully, Schrader is still very much out there and looking to get his films made. Dog Eat Dog opened to mixed reviews at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival, but even those who didn’t like it agreed that Schrader still has style to spare as a filmmaker. And now we’ve finally got a chance to check out the first trailer for his newest film.
‘Deadpool 2’ Producer Promises Jokes About Superhero Sequels
File this one under Least Surprising News of All Time: according to producer Simon Kinberg, the upcoming sequel to the surprise hit Deadpool will poke fun at superhero sequels. No word yet on whether the character of Deadpool will continue to make movie references, talk to the camera, and poke fun at the successes and failures of 20th Century Fox’s X-Men franchise.
Tatiana Maslany Tries Playing Just One Character in ‘Two Lovers and a Bear’ Trailer
French filmmaker Jean-Luc Godard once said that all you need for a good movie is a girl and a gun. If the trailer for Two Lovers and a Bear is any indication, Godard probably meant to say, “a girl and a polar bear,” but we’ll forgive him for not knowing this was a possibility at the time.
Milla Jovovich Teases First ‘Resident Evil: The Final Chapter’ Trailer
Some day, we’re going to look back at the career of Milla Jovovich and realize she was one of our more underappreciated action stars. While we spend our time arguing with Twitter eggs about representation in movies like Suicide Squad and Ghostbusters, Jovovich and her husband-director Paul W.S. Anderson have just been over in their own little corner of Hollywood, churning out modestly budgeted pulp action movies with a strong female lead. The upcoming Resident Evil release will be the sixth film in the franchise. Six!
Jimmy Smits Confirms ‘Star Wars’ Cameo in ‘Rogue One’
The list of known Star Wars characters showing up in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story keeps getting longer. In the past few months, we learned that both Rebellion leader Mon Montha and little-known bad guy Darth Vader would both be making appearances in the new standalone film. Now we can add Senator Bail Organa of the doomed planet Alderaan to that list.
Kiefer Sutherland Says That ‘Flatliners’ Remake is Actually a Sequel
I know for a fact that I have seen the original Flatliners, but for the life of me, I cannot seem to remember what happened. I remember Julia Roberts and Kiefer Sutherland, and I seem to remember scenes where somebody fell out of a tree and died, but that’s about as much as I can muster. That’s not a knock on the movie so much as it is an indication of when it came out; all of those movies I stumbled upon at my local Blockbuster as a kid seem to blur together.
Jared Leto Wants Joker To Go Head-to-Head With the ‘Batfleck’
Odds are you’ve probably rolled your eyes more than a few times after hearing Jared Leto’s approach to playing the Joker in the upcoming Suicide Squad. We’ve talked here before about the actor’s refusal to break character and his uncomfortable gifts to his costars; what we should also remember is that Leto’s Joker seems to be the perfect version of that character for Zack Snyder and David Ayer's vision of the DC universe. If Leto’s take on the Joker proves the quiet optimists like me right, DC Films would do well to give audiences a chance to see Ben Affleck’s Batman and Jared Leto’s Joker in action.
Jeff Bridges Talks ‘The Big Lebowski’ Possible Standalone Film and Sequel
Back in June, actor John Turturro talked to The Hollywood Reporter about his ongoing efforts to make a film featuring his popular bowling lothario Jesus from The Big Lebowski. In the interview, Turturro explained that the character had actually been created years before the movie as part of a public theater company Turturro had participated in. While the actor described the ongoing legal discussions as “very complicated,” he did claim to have the involvement of the Coen Brothers on the film, although not as the directors.
J.K. Rowling Says That Harry Potter is ‘Done Now’
A few weeks ago, Daniel Radcliffe gave a very diplomatic answer when asked if he would ever consider a return to the Harry Potter franchise. And while the actor admitted that he would never close the door to the possibility — for the right script and with the right people involved — it turns out he may not have a franchise to return to. As reported by io9, Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling told reporters at the premiere of London stage show Harry Potter and the Cursed Child that her beloved character was done after the events of the play.
Marvel: Don’t Expect a TV and Movie Crossover Anytime Soon
With a popular new television show and movie coming out every six months or so, it can sometimes feel like this whole superhero thing comes pretty easy for Marvel. This has led some people to wonder why the studio hasn’t taken the next step and intermingled the characters from both media. Who would say no to a Spider-Man movie with a Daredevil team-up? Or Iron Fist consulting Doctor Strange on the mystical arts?
Matt Damon Is Open to More Jason Bourne Movies
Flashback to four or five years ago and it seemed like the idea of another Matt Damon-led Jason Bourne movie was a bit of a pipe dream. How things change. Not only did Jason Bourne open in theaters this weekend, but according to Entertainment Weekly (via Heroic Hollywood), Damon would be open to coming back for even more Jason Bourne sequels.
