Here’s Whom Joss Whedon Would Pick for President, If He Got to Choose an Avenger
Joss Whedon is open about his politics, never one to shy away from letting us all know whom he supports for this upcoming election. Just last week, he and a few of his Avenger pals posted a PSA to launch his new organization Save the Day, urging Americans to make sure they’re registered to vote. On Friday, Whedon also hosted a Facebook Live chat to promote Save the Day, in which he answered some fan questions, including which of the Avengers he’d pick to run the country.
Bill Hader Is the Voice of Alpha 5 in the New ‘Power Rangers’
Aye-yi-yi-yi-yi! The new Power Rangers has Zords, Bryan Cranston, Elizabeth Banks, and now Bill Hader as the robot Alpha 5.
Everybody Relax, We’re Finally Getting the ‘Fruit Ninja’ Movie We’ve Always Wanted
You know video game movies, films that do all they can to finagle a two-hour plot out of what essentially amounts to button-mashing and sometimes includes characters with questionable outfit choices? Here’s a message to all you die-hard Fruit Ninja fans out there: stop wearing down the prints on your index fingers on the screen of your iPads, and rejoice, for we are getting the Fruit Ninja movie we’ve been clamoring for all these years.
Here’s the Impeccably-Timed New Trailer for Brad Pitt and Marion Cotillard’s ‘Allied’
Brangelina is no more, love is dead, and oh, by the way, here’s the first trailer for a new movie starring Brad Pitt. Paramount no doubt figured they might as well take advantage of his name trending on Twitter and release the trailer for Allied. Or the trailer release was scheduled for today all along, in which case it would be quite a coincidence.
Vin Diesel Wants to Bring Back Paul Walker’s ‘Fast and Furious’ Character
More than fast cars or fistfights or crime-committing while crime-fighting, the Fast and Furious movies are about one thing: family. And family, as we all know, means nobody gets left behind or forgotten. Vin Diesel really wants to make sure we don’t forget about the late Paul Walker’s character Brian O’Connor, because apparently he wants to find some way to bring him back.
The ‘Fifty Shades Darker’ Trailer Has Surpassed the Record Set by ‘The Force Awakens’
We hope you’re proud of yourselves. Last April, the second Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer garnered 88 million views in 24 hours, breaking the record previously set by Furious 7. That’s 3.7 million views per hour. Now, it looks like the trailer for Fifty Shades Darker has not only beaten, but curbstomped that record, weighing in at 114 million views in one day.
How 9/11 Changed the Ending of ‘Lilo and Stitch’
The events of September 11, 2001 changed a lot of things. Airline security got tighter, the War on Terror became a regular national news item, and, overall, the outside seemed a little less safe than it had the day before. The repercussions of 9/11 were also felt as far as Hollywood, with the industry’s output of films based on or around themes of violence, terrorism, and war taking on a more serious, sinister bent. “Post-9/11 horror” and “post-9/11 action” became units students study in film class. A lot of films already in production went through slight alterations: the World Trade Center towers were digitally erased from New York City skyline scenes in movies released after the attacks, and entire scenes featuring the towers were cut. Hawaii is about the furthest you can get from New York and still be in the U.S., but even so, there’s a whole scene in Disney’s Lilo & Stitch that was altered so that audiences watching the film so soon after 9/11 wouldn’t be disturbed.
The Joker Won’t Terrorize His Co-Stars in ‘Justice League’
That whooosh you just heard is the entire cast of Justice League breathing a collective sigh of relief.
Adam Driver Says ‘Star Wars: Episode 8’ Is Similar to ‘The Empire Strikes Back’
Okay, relax, it’s not what you think. The Force Awakens is still one of the most successful movies in box office history. The criticism, when there was any, shared a similar theme: it was way too similar to the very first Star Wars movie A New Hope. There’s even a shot-by-shot comparison video that details every location and scene the sequel borrowed from the original. A lot of people figured this was the fault of the studio, Disney wanting to play it safe rather than give J.J. Abrams his head so he could take the franchise in a new direction. And it’s true, there are so many callbacks to the original in The Force Awakens that at some point you just want to throw your hands up and yell “OKAY! We get it! This is a Star Wars movie!” Today, Adam Driver raised some eyebrows while talking about Episode 8 by drawing a comparison to The Empire Strikes Back, but not in the way you think.
Tom Hanks to Get Behind the Wheel of ‘Greyhound’
Tom Hanks is making the most of all the Sully buzz: earlier today, it was revealed that Hanks has written a script for a movie called Greyhound, and also hopes to star in the picture if he can get it picked up. Aaron Schneider (director of Get Low and director of photography for Titanic) has signed on to direct.
Ben Affleck Is a 1920s Gangstah in the Trailer for ‘Live By Night’
It’s been a big year for Ben Affleck, who put on the black cape in both Batman v. Superman and Suicide Squad this summer, but the later part of this year will see him sink his teeth into more understated, non-superhero roles. He’ll make math thrilling in The Accountant in October, and after that he’ll venture down into the gangster underworld of the 1920s in Live By Night, which is looking like an awards season contender now that its wide release date has been moved up to January 2018.
In Honor of Gene Wilder, ‘Young Frankenstein’ Is Coming Back to Theaters
It’s difficult, maybe impossible, to say which of Gene Wilder’s many performances is his best. He had the fastest hands in the West as Jim, aka the Waco Kid, in Blazing Saddles, he invited us into a world of pure imagination as the titular candyman from Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, and he accidentally created a not-so-politically-correct Broadway hit in The Producers.
