Lithia Ford of Missoula reported that a vehicle was stolen from their sales lot sometime between September 17th and 19th. They had no information about any possible suspect at that time. Police Public Information Officer Travis Welsh explains.

“The vehicle was described as a 2020 white Ford Mustang with dark wheels,” Welsh said. “At about 9:05 a.m. on Sunday, an officer was travelling on East Broadway when he observed a vehicle matching the description of the one reported stolen. The vehicle was unoccupied and parked in an adjacent parking lot.”

The officer stopped the vehicle on East Broadway and identified the female driver. According to the Lithia employee, the woman did not have permission to possess this vehicle.

“The officer pulled off and watched the vehicle for a few minutes before he observed an adult female come out and enter the car on the driver’s side,” Welsh said. “He and back up officers quickly converged on the car and took the driver into custody. She was identified as 34-year-old Lacey Phillips. Phillips was placed under arrest for felony theft and transported to the Missoula County Detention Center.”

Court documents indicate Phillips made a variety of statements that did not make sense and said she was told by Missoula Mayor Arnold and other voices to take the car. She said the keys had been in the car when she took it two or three days prior and that she had been driving it around.

Phillips was charged with one count of felony theft. This is the third time this month that Phillips has been arrested for a crime. Both prior incidents were misdemeanor offenses.
