Volunteers ‘Perk Up’ Hamilton’s Parks

Volunteers spread out in Hamilton's many parks Monday for a "Perk Up The Parks" work day. The project was organized by Hamilton counselor Robin Pruit, who wanted to just get some small improvements made on the popular areas.

Volunteers from the Bitterroot Land Trust went to Steve Powell Park by the Bitterroot River and cleared some trails and also worked on some of the signs (photo above). At the same time, the Bitter Root Water Forum volunteers were at the American Legion Park, across from Hamilton's City Hall. When they were done there, they pulled weeds in the flower beds at city hall. Weedpulling was also being done in areas of the Ravalli County Fairgrounds.

A group of Sapphire Lutheran Homes residents and supporters repainted structures at the Hamilton City Dog Park, next to the Public Works Department on New York Avenue. In the afternoon, The Summerdale 4-H kids were at Claudia Driscoll Park and volunteers from Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital were at the River Park by Haynes Field.

Hamilton has a good collection of parks, including Heironymus Park, by the Bitterroot River Inn and the new Skalkaho Bend Park, which has seen a great deal of volunteer help in a bank erosion project earlier this year. A popular feature this year at Legion Park is the splash pad, welcome on these hot days. The Hamilton City Council meets every Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. at City Hall on South Second Street.
