Five Unheard David Bowie Songs Could Appear on a Posthumous ‘Blackstar’ Reissue

Just two days after issuing his final album Blackstar, David Bowie died from liver cancer. Now, it appears a posthumous release comprised of unheard material from those same sessions could be forthcoming.

In a story documenting the album’s making prior to Bowie’s passing on Jan. 10, the L.A. Times reports there are five more songs stemming from the Blackstar sessions that could surface on an expanded re-release of the album. “There are five more songs from these sessions that have yet to be released,” the Times’ Sasha Frere-Jones writes. “So look forward to next Christmas and hope for a deluxe edition.”

Christmas 2016 would align with the approach Bowie took for the deluxe edition of 2013’s The Next Day. The Next Day Extra boasted four unheard cuts and remixes and arrived eight months after the original album.

Bowie died following an unpublicized 18-month battle with cancer. Artists have responded in earnest, offering their condolences, memories and touching tributes to the English icon.
