A two-vehicle accident closed highway 93 at the Ravalli and Missoula county line on Tuesday afternoon for several hours.

Montana highway patrol trooper Lath Keith was the chief investigator at the scene.

“At the intersection of U.S. 93 and County Line Road there was a two-vehicle crash that involved injuries,” said Keith. “There were five total occupants. There was a Chevy Suburban that was on County Line Road making a left hand turn to go north on U.S. 93, and there was a Ford Taurus traveling southbound on U.S. 93, and there was a collision resulting in five injuries.”

Keith said all five of the passengers were transported to local hospitals.

“Life Flight was dispatched and flew the driver of the Ford Taurus to St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula where he is now in the ICU,” he said. “Two other occupants of the Ford Taurus were taken by ground ambulance to St. Patrick Hospital. There were two occupants in the Chevy Suburban and they were transported by ambulance to Community Hospital in Missoula.”

Keith said several agencies responded to the crash, including Florence fire, Missoula Rural Fire, Missoula and Ravalli county deputies. Traffic was rerouted to Old Highway 93, but  93 South was closed for over two hours. At last report, one person was in the ICU at St. Patrick Hospital, but there were no fatalities, because all five passengers were wearing their seat belts.
