UPDATE – Highway Reopened After Truck Hits Guardrail on I-90

At approximately 1:15 a.m. on Monday, September 23, the male driver of a Ford F-150 pickup truck traveling west on Interstate 90 lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the guardrail, sending the truck's rear axle and a drum of diesel fuel into the Clark Fork River.

Montana Highway Patrol trooper Luke Burson said the one-vehicle accident occurred at mile marker 109 near the Bonner exit on I-90. The truck struck the guardrail in such a way that the guardrail actually went through the truck, sending the rear axle into the river. The westbound lanes of I-90 were closed until the truck could be cleared away from the guardrail, and the debris was removed from the river.

The westbound lanes of I-90 were reopened at about 5 a.m., Burson said.

Burson said the diesel drum was sealed, and no fuel was leaking into the river. However, the Department of Emergency Services were called and were on the scene at the time of this report.

The driver of the pickup was able to walk away from the accident with no injuries, Burson added.
