As I have confessed to you before, I am not a big football fan. There are many aspects of the game that I don’t understand, that don’t make sense to me, or that just plain bore me. I don’t understand why they stop the clock after some plays, but not after others. How does a game that has four 15 minute quarters last for three hours on average?

I’m a baseball kind of gal. However, one thing I do really enjoy about football is the commercials during the Super Bowl. It seems that advertisers and companies wait for this most auspicious occasion. However, in this case I think they made an exception to that rule.

I recently ran across this football ad starring Eli and Peyton Manning for DirecTV’s NFL Sunday Ticket. It is by far the best piece of work I’ve seen from two football players ever. It is reminiscent of some of Andy Samberg’s song sketches on SNL.

It has a bit of a late 90s-early 2000s feel, with some ridiculously funny lyrics. One of my favorite lines is, “Now’s your chance to have football on your phone and football in your pants” that is only to be outdone by Eli Manning saying, “Let me ask you a question. What do you get when a football gets down with your phone?”

Alexander Graham Bell, father of the phone as well as the Manning brothers’ father make an appearance in this ad. Of course, their father wants football on his phone, but sadly they don’t care whether or not the man who invented the phone himself would want football on his phone, because “the dude’s dead.”

This could very well be the best thing that has come out of professional football, ever. Well, for a non-football fan anyway.
