School Closures

The National Weather Service is reporting that Missoula will receive another four to six inches of snow today, with possible freezing rain as the week ends.

MONTANA – Governor Steve Bullock today announced a set of directives and guidance to slow the spread of COVID-19 and protect vulnerable Montanans, including closing of public K-12 schools, social distancing measures, and limiting visitation at nursing home facilities.

The snow is unrelenting.

Online and phone threats have forced closure of more than 30 schools forthe second straight day in Northwest Montana.

Another four to six inches of snow has fallen on the Missoula area overnight, with freezing rain and sleet in the forecast for the morning commute, according to the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service is reporting that the Missoula area is in the grip of a weak La Nina patter, which has produced copious amounts of snow, and even some freezing rain and sleet, leading to a winter storm warning until 5:00 p.m. this afternoon.

As of 4:00 a.m. two school districts in western Montana have announced that they will be closed today due to heavy snow, and several others will be delaying the start of their school days.

Here is a list of schools that have already called off classes for Monday, February 24, due to the heavy snow and dangerous driving conditions.

We are hearing early reports of school closures for Missoula and Western Montana. Several businesses have called with closures today as well.
