Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson

In one of Dwayne Johnson’s many (many, many, many) recent Instagram updates, the seemingly immortal actor promised that he’s assembling a killer lineup for the Jumanji reboot. He’s kept his word so far, as Jack Black is set to co-star in the upcoming film, which reunites Johnson with Central Intelligence pal Kevin Hart. Today brings word of yet another prospective addition in the form of a Jonas brother.

Oh, we’re sorry, did you think HBO would give up its partnership with one of the world’s last true movie stars? Whatever your take on the football-fueled Ballers (it’s definitely less obnoxious than Entourage), HBO and Dwayne Johnson have officially laid down a Season 3 renewal for next year.

Thanks to the trailers for Moana, you’re already well-acquainted with the eponymous hero from Disney’s epic new adventure — and her demigod companion, voiced by Dwayne Johnson. As for the rest of the cast…well, we haven’t really met them just yet, but Disney has released several new photos along with character details to help shed some light on Moana’s friends and family. Oh, and there’s a villain, too.

Just the other day, Arnold Schwarzenegger’s long-awaited Pump finally seemed to move forward with an exploration of bodybuilding culture’s origins, but will cultural successor Dwayne Johnson beat him to the punch? The Rock has his own Muscle Beach drama greenlit at USA, and there’s bound to be some overlap.

Perhaps understandably so, the first trailer for Disney’s Moana was a bit more preoccupied with Maui, the jovial demigod character voiced by Dwayne Johnson. What can we say? The Rock is an instant selling point, even when we’re only hearing his voice. But the international trailer puts the spotlight on the titular hero, seen here in the opening scene as a cute little toddler who discovers that she has a rather magical connection to the ocean.

Not content to dominate the world through both Instagram and Twitter (and movies and television shows and wrestling guest appearances and talk show appearances and pretty much everything else), Dwayne Johnson has announced plans to launch his own YouTube channel on July 18 of this year. If the above video is to be believed, Johnson’s inner monologue is also the staging ground of an epic YA adventure movie. Sounds good to us.

Dwayne Johnson is a real-life superhero: Seemingly immortal, immune to exhaustion, able to leap tall franchises in a single bound. Johnson’s plate seems pretty full right now, but he’s just added another big project to his increasingly crowded schedule, and although he’s not officially attached to star in this new graphic novel adaptation just yet, it’s probably only a matter of time before he is — not that Johnson is beholden to time as we mere mortals know it.

Like so many nightmare scenarios in modern life, Central Intelligence begins with a Facebook friend request. In high school, Calvin Joyner (Kevin Hart) was voted Most Likely to Succeed. He did not; the day before his 20-year reunion, he’s a low-level accountant. Too embarrassed and frustrated by the way his life has turned out (despite his relatively happy marriage to his high-school girlfriend Maggie, played by Danielle Nicolet), he’s decided to skip the reunion. That’s when the friend request arrives, from someone named Bob Stone. Calvin doesn’t know any Bob Stones, but he reluctantly accepts the friend request anyway. It turns out Bob Stone is actually Robert Weirdicht (say it out loud), who was involved in a horrific bullying incident back in high school.

As promised, Disney has debuted the first official trailer for Moana, the studio’s new musical adventure featuring the voices of Dwayne Johnson as a demi-god — as if you could cast him any other way. The Rock already played Hercules, now he plays a guy who kind of looks and sounds like Hercules’ South Pacific cousin Maui, who boasts of his great deeds, his magical fish hook, and his apparently magical dancing tattoos.

Somehow — in between working out, reading scripts, and filming Fast 8 and Jumanji — Dwayne Johnson finds time to share updates and sneak peeks from his upcoming films with his sizable fan base. Today’s Rock-sclusive is the first official poster for Disney’s Moana, the animated musical adventure featuring the voices of Johnson (obviously) and newcomer Auli’i Cravalho. Sure, HBO’s Ballers may seem like a sportier Entourage (with the same producing team behind it), but who couldn’t use more Dwayne Johnson in their lives? The full season 2 trailer has arrived ahead of its July premiere, as minnows Spence and Joe take their business up against a shark like Andy Garcia.

Dwayne Johnson has been rumored for Shane Black’s long-developing adaptation of Doc Savage for some time now. The director of The Nice Guys has been vocal about Johnson being his top choice, and a recent Instagram post only fueled speculation as Johnson revealed he was planning on filming something with Black in 2017 — that something is indeed Doc Savage, confirmed by Johnson in yet another Instagram post earlier today.
