The identity of Mads Mikkelsen’s mysterious villain in Doctor Strange has been the subject of much speculation, with fans assuming the former Hannibal star is either playing classic comic baddies like Dormammu or Nightmare. Those would be good guesses, but they’re both incorrect — it turns out Mikkelsen is playing an antagonist most people have never even heard of before, but one that might make for a much more interesting story.

It may be hard to believe, but Comic-Con is very, very close — next month, in fact. And that means that we’ll be hearing a lot more about this year’s panels and special presentations in the weeks to come. Ever since Marvel formally announced the casting of Benedict Cumberbatch as Sorcerer Supreme in their upcoming ‘Doctor Strange’ film, we haven’t heard much else about the project. Set to be directed by Scott Derrickson, the film is currently scheduled for a 2016 release date, so it’s about time that we started hearing a little more about who else will be joining Cumberbatch as the project heads closer to production—like Chiwetel Ejiofor, who is reportedly in talks for a role.

The 'Doctor Strange' casting has come full circle. After a series of stops and starts (we're looking at you, Joaquin Phoenix), Marvel has returned to one of the very first actors they had their eye on for their upcoming superhero movie: Benedict Cumberbatch. Deadline is reporting that the 'Sherlock' star is in "final negotiations" with Marvel to star in 'Doctor Strange' and, presumably, a number of other big 'Avengers' style crossover movies.
