The University of Montana will host a ceremony on Tuesday to commemorate the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding among the Kumamoto Prefecture Board of Education, Missoula County Public Schools and UM.

MCPS Communications Director Hatton Littman said the ceremony will take place at the University Center on the UM campus.

"We'll be participating between the school district, the university and the delegation from Kumamoto in a signing ceremony," Littman said. "The signing indicates essentially, a commitment to a relationship that started back in 1982. President Royce Engstrom and Superintendent Alex Apostle, as well as the superintendent of Kumamoto prefecture's board of education, Ryuichi Tasaki, will be signing the memorandum of understanding committing to our ongoing relationship."

The signing ceremony will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the University Center.

MCPS also will host school tours for the delegation at 1:30 p.m. the same day at Hellgate High School, and at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21 at Big Sky High School.
