A little friendly rivalry between TV juggernauts never hurt, and we’ve certainly seen The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones tossing a bit of healthy shade back and forth. Dead creator Robert Kirkman may have escalated the conflict, however, expressing his disappointment in Thrones author George R.R. Margin giving up book spoilers, for which the zombie mogul now offers a clever mea culpa.

It all started with a recent profile of Kirkman, in which which the Walking Dead comic creator made some pointed comments on the potential for AMC’s adaptation to catch up with his work (the books have a comfortable 55-issue lead). Comparing the situation to HBO’s Game of Thrones currently overtaking Martin’s Song of Ice and Fire books, for which the author gave showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss permission for reveal a few early twists, Kirkman said:

I would never do that. That’s the one thing I’m disappointed in George R.R. Martin for doing. He should have just been like, Fuck you. You make it up now, I’ll get to mine when I’m ready.

Keeping it in the AMC family, Kirkman invoked Mad Men to kick off his three-pronged apology over Twitter:

Mind you, Kirkman has certainly been on the defensive of late, with each and every Walking Dead conversation inevitably turning to that controversial finale cliffhanger, but it’s good to see the Walking Dead boss getting ahead of the story. You know, unlike George R.R. Martin with his books, but that’s another matter.

In the meantime, new spoiler-filled Game of Thrones will air this Sunday, while The Walking Dead is adding a goddamn tiger. Win-win!
