I recently read an article that made me stop and think. This article was about grandmas and how invaluable they are. I don’t often appreciate all that my parents do for me and this article made me realize just how lucky I am to have them.

My mom is truly one of my best friends. I only have three really good female friends, one is my mom and another is my sister. Like most teenage girls, I didn’t get along well with my parents. However, now that I am a parent myself they are some of my closest friends.

I have been so fortunate to live in the same town as my parents. They are my source of wisdom, my shoulder to cry on, great listeners, and the best example I have of great parenting and a successful marriage. I honestly don’t know how I could manage without them. They are the best and most reliable caregivers to my boys and love my kids unconditionally.

Some of my siblings don’t live nearby and I often wonder how they survive with only the long distance love and support of our parents. I know that I need more than that and don’t know if I could live without them.

I know we need our parents when we are kids. Their job is to help guide us as we grow. I’m grown with kids of my own and still need my parents. In fact, the older I get, the more convinced I am that I will always need my parents.

You’re just never too old not need your mom. Don’t believe me? Think about every time you’ve been sick or hurt. Didn’t you want your mom? Nobody can make you feel better like she can.

When you’re a daughter, there is just nothing like a hug from your father. Being wrapped up in his big strong arms just makes you want to melt. You just can’t help but feel like a little girl again when you dance with your dad, not matter what age you may be.

If you’re lucky enough to have your parents in your life like me, then let them know how much they mean to you. Don’t wait, do it today.
