It was way back in November we first heard former Game of Thrones star and future Aquaman Jason Momoa would be back to his bloody and intense self for new Netlix miniseries Frontier, and the first photos look … well, pretty bloody and intense. See for yourself in the first 2016 sneak peek!

Entertainment Weekly wrought the first photos of Momoa’s new Netflix/Discovery drama, which follows the 18th century fur trade, and delicate relations between Native tribes and Europeans:

Due out later this year, the series is directed by San Andreas helmer Brad Peyton, and created by Rob and Peter Blackie. Told from multiple perspectives to chronicle the chaotic and violent struggle of wealth and power in the North American fur trade, the logline for Netflix’s Frontier describes the drama as:

In a world where business negotiations might be resolved with close-quarter hatchet fights, and where delicate relations between Native tribes and Europeans can spark bloody conflicts.

The new series also stars Braveheart star Alun Armstrong, Hemlock Grove alum Landon Liboiron (visible in the photo above), Downton Abbey resident Zoe Boyle, as well as Allan Hawco and Canadian newcomer Jessica Matten.

Frontier has no firm release date as of yet, still shooting in Newfoundland, but check out the photos above and stay tuned.
