On Saturday, June 8th, Moms Demand Action for Gun Violence will recognize individuals and communities impacted by gun violence. They'll be sharing their dedication and commitment to the community as they, and their supporters, take on the work ahead, and celebrate and share collective stories of success in working to reduce gun violence in our country. MDA invites you to join them in a day of action that shows that there IS a movement of Americans committed to end gun violence.
Reality of Gun Violence in America
  1. 100 people are killed by gun violence every day in the US.
  2. Firearms are the second leading cause of death for American children and teens.
  3. Access to a gun increases the risk of death by suicide by 3X. Montana has the highest rate of suicides and almost 70% are completed by firearms.
  4. In 2017, at least 207 children gained access to a firearm and shot themselves or others; in 2018 the number was 285--responsible gun storage is the deciding factor in these incidents.
'Wear Orange' and 'National Gun Violence Prevention Day' were inspired by teens who asked their classmates to commemorate the life of a slain friend — Hadiya Pendleton — by wearing orange. Hadiya marched in President Obama’s second inaugural parade in 2013 and was shot and killed a week later in a park near her home in Chicago. June 2nd would have been Hadiya’s birthday.
