Missoula Red Sand Project Will Happen Virtually This Year

In this time of quarantine and social distancing, it's been really interesting watching organizations trying to adapt and continue to hold their events in an online space. The Montana Special Olympics are doing it all virtually this year, and so is RatPod 2020 - and now, you can add another one to the list. And this one is happening this week!

The annual Red Sand Project, which is held every year by the Missoula Human Trafficking Task Force, is set to take place Wednesday, May 21st and Thursday, May 22nd - normally this would be a big event where people gather together, but this time around it's all online. They've got stations where you can pick your sand up throughout Missoula and you can fill in the cracks on the sidewalk on your own, and submit your work to the website to raise awareness about human trafficking. .

Due to social distancing concerns, our annual Red Sand Project Trafficking Awareness Event is being held virtually this year. You can participate by picking up a packet of sand and doing your own project at home or safely distancing with family.

1. Pick up sand May 20 or 21, 4-7pm outside one of our partner businesses:
* Missoula Fresh Market on Broadway
* Pattee Creek Market on 39th St
* Great Burn Brewing on McDonald

2. Head to www.missoulahumantrafficking.com or redsandproject.org. Learn to recognize and respond.

3. Take part in raising awareness for those affected by modern day slavery. Fill sidewalk cracks with the red sand and document it on social media using #missoularedsand and tag us @missoulahumantrafficking

May 5 was National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Native Women and Girls. Post your projects any time between pickup and the end of may to help raise awareness for all those who fall between the cracks of society.
