At around 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Missoula Police Department officers received a report of a male following a female who had just reportedly burglarized his residence in the 1100 block of Idaho Street. An officer responded to the area and began searching for the suspect. The officer spotted a female who he immediately recognized from previous interactions as 46-year-old Amy Hout. Police Public Information Officer Lydia Arnold explains.

“Amy Hout was arrested on burglary charges after the victim called the police saying Hout had entered their vehicle, forced entry into their residence, and took multiple items,” Arnold said. “The victim was following Hout and was able to provide the responding officers a good description of what Hout was wearing. Hout was contacted by police a few blocks away from the incident address and had numerous items on her person belonging to the victim.”

The victim informed the officer that Hout, who he had an acquaintance with, had stolen numerous items from inside his home and from his vehicle that was parked in front of the residence. The victim showed the officer that he had video surveillance footage of the incident and was able to capture the incident almost entirely.

“The officers on scene were able to review the victim’s security footage and were able to watch Hout enter the vehicle and force entry into the home,” Arnold said. “Hout was arrested without incident and taken to the Missoula County Jail.”

According to the victim, Hout took numerous articles of leather clothing, a digital camera monitor, a silver fowl medallion, and a large amount of coins in US currency. Hout denied ever going inside the victim’s residence, but the search of Hout’s person resulted in the discovery of a significant amount of US coins as well as a silver fowl medallion. The items that were taken from the victim’s residence and vehicle were all returned, and he stated that he believed nothing else was missing.

Hout is currently being charged with burglary, theft, and criminal trespass to vehicles. Court documents indicate Hout has at least three prior convictions of theft in the past five years.

On October 1st, 2021, Hout was arrested for allegedly attacked a Citilodge Motel employee who wouldn’t give her drugs. She was eventually charged with aggravated burglary.
