Missoula Nurse’s Heart Wrenching Plea, and the Reason She is Smiling

It's no secret that COVID-19 numbers are spiking all across America, with fears that the public health crisis will grow even worse due to holiday gatherings. When the pandemic began, we seemed united, and focused on stopping the spread of the virus and caring for one another. We howled each night from our porches and praised our front line workers. Eight months later, some Montanans view mask wearing as a political way to control them and take away their freedoms. From the bottom of my heart, I feel sorry for those people, that they choose to live in a way that their minds can never experience peace because they think some boogeyman is out to strip away their freedoms.

A local Missoula nurse is pleading with the public to wash your hands and "wear a damn mask." By now, you, or somebody you know has either suffered, or is currently suffering through COVID symptoms. Some cases are mild and folks are able to get back to work after a 14 day quarantine. For others, the experience is dire, and overwhelming Montana hospitals to the point of crisis. I am a nurse. I love being a nurse. I work with some of the best nurses out there. We are smiling in this picture because we got to give each other the best hugs with all our PPE on and it felt good! But we are struggling. Nursing in a pandemic is hard. It is physically, mentally and emotionally exhausting. There is SO much isolation and loneliness and death. It is hard to put into words how much stress this puts on us, each and every day on the covid unit. I have fought back tears at work more days then I care to admit. We need your help. We need you to limit gatherings with friends and family. We know this is hard because we are also struggling with this. We need you to wash your hands. We need you to wear a damn mask. We need you to help us care for our community. Please.
