A Missoula man, 39 year-old Joshua Riggenbach has been charged with two felonies after several shots were fired in an apartment building .

Missoula Police Department spokeswoman Lydia Arnold has details of the incident that occurred on Sunday afternoon.

“Joshua Riggenbach is being held at the Missoula County Detention Center for a charge of assault with a weapon and criminal endangerment,” said Arnold. “Officers responded to an apartment complex for a report of shots fired. When officers arrived on scene they located a male, Joshua Riggenbach, in the parking lot with injuries from jumping from a second story.”

As officers investigated the apartment house shooting, it became apparent that drugs were involved.

“Joshua was exhibiting signs of drug use and even told initial responding officers he had been using methamphetamine,” she said. “When officers entered into the male's apartment, they observed multiple signs of gunshots being fired within the apartment. Thankfully, no other person was injured.”

When officers questioned Riggenbach, they determined that he fired the weapon as a result of hallucinations from drug use.

“Patrol officers and detectives continued the investigation and based on that investigation, it appears Riggenbach was experiencing hallucinations from his drug use and engaged in shooting. The investigation is ongoing. Thankfully, no other apartment complex residents were injured as his apartment shares walls with other residents. No other persons were involved in this incident.”

Riggenbach will appear on felony charges of assault with a weapon and criminal endangerment in Missoula Justice Court on Tuesday.
