On February 25, 2022, a Missoula Police Department Officer responded to a disturbance at the Super 8 Motel and made contact with three individuals. One of the individuals was identified as 44-year-old Marcell Wyatt. Wyatt was reportedly yelling something about a grenade but had no grenade or weapons on his person. The officer sent the individuals on their way without issuing citations and the group left the area in a green vehicle.

That same day, at approximately 8:33 a.m., the same officer responded to a reported assault at Boyd Park. When the officer arrived, medical personnel were already on scene tending to the victim. Police Public Information Officer Lydia Arnold explains.

“Officers on scene arrived as Fire and Medical were also on scene,” Arnold said. “The victim was being taken to the hospital for what appeared to be multiple injuries. Officers were able to make initial observations of the injuries and recognized the victim from prior contact they had had in the day. The victim was transported to the hospital and the condition of the victim is unknown at this time.”

The officer observed the victim being loaded into an ambulance with blood coming out of his nose. The victim was moaning and unable to respond to officers’ questions.

“Officers spoke with witnesses and observed cameras in the area that showed the actual incident,” Arnold said. “An officer went to the hospital and was able to speak to the victim who was able to identify the suspect, Marcell Wyatt. The victim gave a statement regarding items being stolen from him. Later in the day, officers located Wyatt and placed him under arrest for robbery and assault. During the arrest, officers observed indication of alcohol consumption in Wyatt.”

According to court documents, the victim appeared to be in a great deal of pain when he spoke to the officer. The victim had blood coming out of his nose and mouth, and blood near his eyes. The victim kept stating that his chest hurt and that he had several teeth knocked out. He explained that he might have swallowed his teeth when he was kicked in the face.

The victim said Wyatt kicked him in the head several times and jumped on his head at least three times. During the assault, the victim said Wyatt yelled something along the lines of, “Give me your f****g money. You get paid today.” Wyatt then took the victim’s wallet containing his ID and First Interstate Bank card.

At 12:07 p.m., the officer responded to the Poverello Center after receiving a call that a disorderly male was attempting to fight people outside. Upon arrival, the officer recognized Wyatt and placed him under arrest. The officer then looked inside the original green vehicle and observed two black wallets, and what appeared to be a debit/credit card laying in the center console. The officer believes this property belongs to the victim.

Wyatt is currently being charged with aggravated assault and robbery.
