I made a quick stop at the post office yesterday and on my way out was greeted my a young lady collecting signatures for CI-110. For those of you, like me, who are not in the loop CI-110 is a petition seeking to end criminal penalties for marijuana. It doesn't take a genius to realize that prohibition has never worked. It didn't work with alcohol almost 100 years ago and it's still not working with marijuana today. I signed the petition, but I've signed almost a dozen similar initiatives and petitions over the last few years and we're still in the same boat. As I walked away an older woman was walking out of the post office and the young lady collecting signatures asked her the same question, "would you like to sign this petition to end criminal penalties for marijuana?" What struck me was the fact that the woman, who I just assumed would tell the young lady to get a job, stopped and signed the petition too! I was floored! Are we really living in a country where people from 18-80 are on the same page regarding marijuana, yet the laws still don't reflect what people want?!? It brought another issue to mind: same sex marriage. Why do we still live in a country where two people (any two people) can't have a legal union? What is wrong with America?
