The Missoula County School Board of Trustees is narrowing down the list of candidates to replace retiring Superintendent Mark Thane, and the names of possible candidates will be released late Tuesday night.

MCPS Communications Director Hatton Littman said the board has been hard at work narrowing down the list of candidates.

“Superintendent Thane announced his retirement back in November and the trustees have been engaged in a process with search consultants to both post the position and now to go through the interview process,” said Littman. “The next big step that will occur happens Tuesday night at the board meeting. In an executive session they will review all the applications from individuals interested in the position.”

Littman said the identities of the finalists will be released after the board’s executive session.

“At the end of the executive session the trustees will reopen the meeting to the general public and will then announce the candidates they intend to interview,” she said. “Hopefully, they will announce the details of the interview schedule, and we anticipate the first round of interviews is going to take place on the 15th, 16th and 17th, next Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.”

Superintendent Mark Thane will retire at the close of the 2019 school year in June. Thane has promised to ask the new superintendent to appear monthly on KGVO’s Talk Back show.
