Missoula Police responded to a call this morning at about 6:58, to the Montana Rail Link yard near the Scott Street overpass.

According to Police Public Information Officer Travis Welsh, an adult male was found deceased at the scene, "in an industrial accident involving a train."

It appears that the man was killed when the smaller vehicle he was riding in became pinned between two trains.

Welsh said the man was an employee and reason to be in the rail yard at the time of the accident.

National Transportation Safety Board inspectors will be arriving in Missoula soon to assess the situation.

“The loss of a fellow co-worker is difficult to process," said MRL President Tom Walsh. "Our hearts go out to his family, friends and coworkers. There are no words that adequately reflect the sorrow that we all feel at this time. Grief counselors are available to assist during this difficult time. Safety is of the utmost importance to our railroad and our employees and we will continue to strive to be injury and accident free.”

More information, including the name of the deceased will be released after family members have been notified.
