Just before 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Missoula police received a call from a bank in the 3300 block of Brooks street. Police Public Information Officer Travis Welsh says a male was attempting to cash a check that was taken during a burglary just days earlier.

“In fact, we had a report of a burglary at a different branch of this bank,” Welsh said. “An alarm went off on July 5th at about 4 a.m. The officers responded and learned that entry had been forced into a normally inaccessible portion of the bank and checks were taken.”

According to Welsh, officers quickly responded to the bank where the man tried to cash one of the stolen checks.

“They arrived at the location and made contact with the male,” Welsh said. “They identified him as 25-year-old Courtney Plumage. A subsequent investigation revealed that Plumage was involved in both incidences of the original burglary and a previously cashed check that had been stolen in that incident. He was taken into custody and transported to the Missoula County Jail.”

Welsh says officers used surveillance footage to confirm Plumage was the one who stole the checks. Plumage is being held for a felony burglary charge.
