The Missoula City County Health Department told KGVO News on Monday that it is participating in the National Month of Action, working towards a goal of 70 percent of Missoula County residents receiving at least one dose of the several COVID 19 vaccines.

Public Information Officer Hayley Devlin provides details.

“There are different entities across town participating in the National Month of Action,” said Devlin. “The YMCA, for example, they're doing free child care for anybody who's getting vaccinated. So if you need to get on down to the clinic you can drop your kids off at the YMCA for free for a certain amount of time. Krispy Kreme and Albertsons are also promoting vaccinations through discounts and free doughnuts.”

Devlin postulated on why the number of people receiving vaccinations has dropped off sharply over the past few weeks.

“A lot of the misconceptions are I'm young and healthy, so I don't need a vaccine, which isn't true,” she said. “This virus has hospitalized young people, and it's important for people to get vaccinated to protect the health of the entire community. I think a lot of people are also prone to misinformation around the vaccine, which is making them fearful of them for reasons that are just unfounded. So I would encourage people to only get health information from credible resources such as their primary care physician, the health department or the CDC website.”

In addition to the local incentives, Devlin detailed some of the national prizes being offered during the National Month of Action.

“There's tickets sweepstakes to win Spotify accounts; a sweepstakes to win Daytona 500 tickets,  as well as free tickets to MLB games,” she said. “There's also sweepstakes to win cruise sweepstakes and to win airline tickets, as well as tickets to the Super Bowl, and these are things that anybody across the nation can apply for.”

Devlin said anyone can stop by the former Lucky’s Market at Southgate Mall to receive a COVID 19 vaccine.

Ratings are based on six categories: affordability, weather, safety, economy, education and health, and quality of life. The cities ranged in population from 10,000 to 150,000, but they had to have at least one local beach listed on TripAdvisor. Read the full methodology here. From those rankings, we selected the top 50. Readers who live in California and Florida will be unsurprised to learn that many of towns featured here are in one of those two states.
