Labor Day is quickly approaching and law enforcement agencies across Montana are taking extra precautions. Highway Patrol Executive Assistant Kristin Banchero explains.

“We are focused on increased enforcement beginning tomorrow through September 5th in the National ‘Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over’ campaign,” said Banchero. “Basically that just means that we are going to have increased patrols out in force trying to keep people safe and prevent impaired driving.”

There is some good news to report, fatalities this year appear to be on the decline.

“Same time last year we were at 131 fatalities and this year we are at 122,” Banchero said. “Of course we will never be satisfied until every person out there is wearing their seatbelt. We always encourage everybody to buckle up whether we are at zero fatalities or 122 fatalities.”

The public is encouraged to report suspected impaired drivers by calling 911.
