The trial of accused rapist Jordan Scott Bahr in Missoula District Court ended on Monday afternoon with the defendant pleading guilty to felony sexual assault.

Lead prosecutor Jennifer Clark with the Missoula County Attorney's Office said Bahr's attorneys initially asked Judge Robert L. 'Dusty' Deschamps, to dismiss the case.

"We finished our case in chief, and the defense made a motion for a directed verdict, arguing that we didn't prove our case beyond a reasonable doubt for it to go to the jury," Clark said. "The judge denied that motion and then the defendant came in and pleaded guilty to the charge of felony sexual assault. The defendant has the decision and the choice to make whether or not he wants to proceed to trial, and at any point in the proceedings before a verdict is rendered, he has the option to plead guilty."

Clark said she hopes the guilty verdict will provide some closure to the victim.

"The initial incident occurred on October 13th, 2015, and Mr. Bahr was from Minnesota and from what I understand, he returned home," she said. He was returned to Missoula on a $30,000 warrant to face the charges. "The victim was very relieved at the outcome of the case and I hope there is some closure for her, as much as there can be."

Clark said there are several legal steps that must be taken before Bahr can be sentenced.

"There is not a date for sentencing set yet," she said. "We have a status hearing in March, and the defendant has to undergo a psycho sexual evaluation, and pre-sentence investigation report has to be completed. The judge continued Mr. Bahr's release on the bail that he  posted along with GPS monitoring."

Clark said the possible sentence for felony sexual assault is a minimum of four years and a maximum of 100 years in the Montana State Prison in Deer Lodge.
