Jim Carrey has publicly denounced the violence in a new movie -- starring himself. Which means ‘Kick Ass 2' isn’t just a clever name ... the sequel to a violent comic book movie actually contains violence.

Of course, according to an executive producer and writer of the comic books on which the film is based, the screenplay had violent content in it when Carrey signed on to do it 18 months ago. Also, the name alone might indicate this isn't a fuzzy feel-good flick. But suddenly, the man who brought us this weird protest video has decided it was all wrong.

Over the weekend, the actor tweeted this to his more than 10 million Twitter followers:

Mark Miller, who wrote the graphic novels ‘Hit Girl’ and ‘Kick Ass 2’ (on which the film is based), posted this on his website (among many accolades he bestowed upon Carrey).

As you may know, Jim is a passionate advocate of gun-control and I respect both his politics and his opinion, but I'm baffled by this sudden announcement as nothing seen in this picture wasn't in the screenplay eighteen months ago. Yes, the body-count is very high, but a movie called 'Kick-Ass 2' really has to do what it says on the tin. A sequel to the picture that gave us HIT-GIRL was always going to have some blood on the floor and this should have been no shock to a guy who enjoyed the first movie so much.

He seems to have no hard feelings toward the actor, even after the public shaming of his writing. He finished up with ...

Jim, I love ya and I hope you reconsider for all the above points. You're amazing in this insanely fun picture and I'm very proud of what ... all the team have done here.

So! Buyer beware: If you go to a movie called ‘Kick Ass 2,’ chances are good you're going to see some violence. Don't say you weren't warned.
