A leader in self-driving vehicle technology has announced plans to build a new 78,000 square-foot facility at the Montana State University Innovation Campus in Bozeman.

Aurora, a self-driving vehicle technology company based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and in Mountain View, California is expanding and adding a new facility in Bozeman. Aurora is known for developing the Aurora Driver, a computer system that can be integrated into cars for autonomous driving.

Montana Senator Steve Daines said;

According to a press release from Montana State University, the modern, two-story facility will include research and development laboratories, a world-class manufacturing space and clean room facility, and more. In collaboration with MSU, Aurora also plans to open a new, state-of-the-art lidar test range.

Jason Carter. Vice President of Research, Economic Development, and Graduate Education at MSU said;

Aurora’s decision to open one of its major facilities on the Innovation Campus is a testament to the value Montana State University brings to the table as the state’s largest research enterprise. We have decades of experience in optics and photonics, and most importantly, we have graduates who are eager to work in cutting-edge industries like self-driving.

An official opening date for the facility has not been announced, but construction is expected to begin in the near future.

Recently, another car company, Hyundai, announced plans to relocate its New Horizon Studio headquarters to Bozeman. The Bozeman facility will focus on research and development of  Ultimate Mobility Vehicles.
