The Missoula County Attorney’s Office charged 20 new criminal complaints this week, which is nine more than last week and significantly higher than the weekly average. According to County Attorney Kirsten Pabst, two cases involved partner or family member assault and four cases involved violence against a non-family members.

“In one, the defendant allegedly threatened his probation officer,” Pabst said. “Another was an inmate altercation. In another, the defendant was at the Safe Outdoor Space and allegedly got into an altercation with another resident. In another case, a victim was attacked by a person who was allegedly breaking into their car.”

In addition, there were four new endangerment crimes and one defendant was charged with five counts of criminal endangerment. In that case, the defendant was intoxicated and allegedly drove a stolen vehicle the wrong way on the highway, making other drivers swerve and fear for their lives.

“In one, we charged child criminal endangerment involving alcohol on board while a parent was driving,” Pabst said. “We also charged a DUI fourth or subsequent offense. In that case, the defendant was allegedly swerving and fell asleep at a red light. Finally, there was one more criminal endangerment case that involved two counts. In that case, the defendant was driving a stolen vehicle and speeding all over town while evading law enforcement. That defendant ultimately hit a vehicle, almost hit a bicycle rider, and forced a bus off the road.”

According to Pabst, there were three new property crimes as well. In one case, the defendant was seen spray painting a car that was later determined to be stolen. Officers also found a baggie of heroin.

“We charged two other drug cases,” Pabst said. “One involved possession of methamphetamine. Another involved possession of Clonazepam and Adderall. In the administrative crimes category, we charged tampering with or fabricating physical evidence. The allegation is the defendant used a substitute urine sample for his test. Finally, we charged sexual abuse of children involving possession of sexual abuse materials.”

Pabst said her office also charged two new sexual intercourse without consent cases.
