One of Missoula's favorite events is finally back to its full glory this year - it's the return of the International Wildlife Film Festival!

What is the International Wildlife Film Festival?

The International Wildlife Film Festival is an annual festival that showcases independent documentary films about all kinds of wildlife from around the world. The festival mostly takes place at the Roxy Theater here in Missoula, though there are typically parts of the festival that take place throughout the community.

And this year, the festival is back to being a fully in-person event. Back in 2020, IWFF had to go entirely virtual with everything shut down. In 2021, much of the world had returned, but the Roxy still wasn't open - so IWFF became a hybrid in-person/digital event, utilizing outdoor venues like Caras Park, The Roxy Garden, and Ogren Park.

But now, in 2022, the Roxy Theater is fully reopened, and the festival is back to its old stomping grounds - and they're even extending their reach this year with a couple of screenings at the Rialto in Bozeman. There will also be a virtual component to the festival after the in-person screenings wrap up, for those who can't make it to the theater.

What to Expect at the International Wildlife Film Festival

You can expect to see movies! But also, a bunch of other stuff, too. Here's a quick rundown of some of the festival highlights:

- The Wildwalk Parade and Wildfest at the XXXXs on Higgins

- Panels and Q&As with filmmakers and other experts

- Events at the Roxy Garden, UM Campus, the Missoula Public Library, and the Wilma

- An awards ceremony at the Wilma

And that's just the tip of the iceberg. The International Wildlife Film Festival kicks off on April 23rd and runs through April 30th. The virtual festival runs from May 1st through 7th. You can get tickets, passes, a full schedule, and everything else you need at their website right now.
