According to the National Retail Federation, Americans who celebrate Halloween intend to spend $9 billion on Halloween this year. Of that, $3.2 billion will be spent on costumes, $2.7 billion on decorations, $2.6 billion on candy, and $400 million on greeting cards.

In another report, Topcashback.com reports a national survey of over 3,000 adults which shows similar percentages, with 38 percent of the total spent on costumes, 31 percent on candy and 21 percent on decorations. They also report that 72 percent of the folks get older costumes out of the closet and re-wear them to save money or because they really liked the costume. Favorite candy was Reese's, followed by Kit Kats, Milky Way, Three Musketeers and Candy Corn. By the way, kids, over 78 percent of your parents admit to "stealing" candy from their kids.
