The annual spring lake trout fishing tournament, Flathead Lake Mack Days, had to be postponed earlier this spring because of COVID-19.

While there are some different rules, tourney dates and procedures, anglers once again have a chance to try their luck starting June 2 and running through June 28. And as usual there is no entry fee and lots of different ways to win some cash.

Mack Days is sponsored by the Confederated Salish & Kootenai Tribes and sanctioned by Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks. There's up to $225,000  in cash and prizes. You can fish every day and there are: (1)-$10,000 & (3) $5,000 & (5) $1000 + over (6,000) $500-$100 tagged lake trout.

Anglers can fish Mondays (except June 1) to Thursdays for tagged fish and bonus totals. Friday to Sundays-lottery, tagged fish, bonuses and special categories including top angler. Friday, Saturday, & Sunday-competitive Mack Days-lottery, prizes, tagged fish, and bonuses. Your best 12 days out of 16 possible, Friday-Sunday, for top ten angler prizes.

You can fish the entire lake. And while they love to have young anglers involved, they cannot come in too close at this time. Please help keep your families at a safe distance. If this request is not respected, an angler may be disqualified. If you wish to keep some or all of your catch you will be asked to punch a hole in the gill plate of the fish before putting back in your cooler. You can get more questions answered and enter here.

Good luck to all anglers. Here's hoping it makes the late spring and early summer feel just a little bit more normal to you.
