Talking animals, man. The kids love ’em. They love ’em.

Not only did The Secret Life of Pets open with an enormous $103 million at the domestic box office, but while that talking animal cartoon was dominating the competition last weekend, another talking animal cartoon quietly dethroned the summer’s previous box office champ to become the top movie of 2016 so far. That talking animal cartoon, of course, was Finding Dory, Pixar’s newest movie (and their sequel to a previous talking animal cartoon, Finding Nemo.)

With another $20.3 million in grosses last weekend, Finding Dory has now grossed $422.5 million in the United States. That tops Captain America: Civil War, which has $406.2 million in the U.S. (and is still in about 250 theaters; it made $310,000 last weekend). Dory was already Pixar’s biggest opener in history; it made $135 million in its first weekend in theaters. $422.5 million also makes Finding Dory the biggest domestic hit in the entire history of Pixar. The previous record holder was Toy Story 3, which made $415 million in U.S. theaters in the summer of 2010. So talking animals > talking toys, apparently.

Or maybe not! Toy Story 3 still holds the worldwide box office record for Pixar, with more than $1 billion in grosses. To date, Dory has only made about $640 million internationally, which puts it sixth on the studio’s all-time list behind titles like Inside OutMonsters University, and the original Finding Nemo, but there are still numerous foreign territories where it’s yet to open, including Japan and the United Kingdom. When all is said and done, Dory will surely be a lot higher on that list, and perhaps number one. All hail the talking animal cartoon. Long may it reign. And talk.
