A special fundraising effort was completed Saturday with the last of three 5K runs in the Hamilton area, aimed at bringing in some bucks for a new cancer center at Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital. The Tammany Trot at the Daly Mansion had a good turnout of runners in the 5K route and for runners and walkers of all ages in the 1-mile fun run around the mansion property.

The three 5K runs in the Trifecta promotion started with the Moriah Hughes Memorial Run at Hamilton High School September 30, followed by the Colors of Cancer Fun Run a couple of days later at the Canyons Athletic Club. Then, the wrap up run at the Mansion this past weekend. The winner of a Trifecta cash prize was Rachel Zeiler.
Stacie Duce of the Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital Foundation said that the 3-race promotion was to increase public awareness of a proposed cancer infusion treatment center at Hamilton’s Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital, and public donations to the hospital’s annual cancer money-raising events will go a long way in helping with construction costs.

Duce said, “Every dollar that is raised from every little bake sale to every big donation is going to help build a cancer center at Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital in Hamilton. It’s a big project, but it’s definitely going to have a huge impact on our community and to those who have that terrible diagnosis, and give them some hope and some convenience and some wonderful care.”

By the way, the first across the line for the Daly Mansion’s Tammany Trot were Jeremy Davidson in lst place and Liam Fitzsimmons in second. The race is named after one of Copper King Marcus Daly’s prize-winning race horses. Fundraising for the hospital’s cancer center continue through October and will continue in the following months.
