Montana faces flooding threats, as mountain snow pack continues to increase and a cool spring brings yet more moisture. The National Weather Service says many of the State's river basins are nearly double their average snow pack levels, and snow has been piling up late into spring. The flood threat could persist into early July.

Due to cool weather. State Disaster and Emergency Services Coordinator Ed Tinsley urges people to be prepared. Tinsley says Prepare for high water now  if you live in a flood-prone area.

If flooding occurs...

  • Move to higher ground immediately and stay away from flood prone areas.
  • Do not allow children to play near high water, storm drains or ditches. Hidden dangers often lie beneath the water.
  • Flooded roads can have significant damage hidden by floodwaters. Never drive on a flooded road.
  • Do not camp or park your vehicle along streams or washes... particularly when threatening weather conditions exist.
  • Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize flood dangers.
