Easter weekend is approaching. It's a time when many families try to get in some extra quality activities together.

Perhaps moms. dads, kiddos, grandparents, etc., will take a family drive to the beautiful Flathead Lake area. If so, one of our lovely Montana state parks is inviting you to hop down their bunny trail for some eggs-citing activities.

Have you checked out Lone Pine State Park lately? It's located five miles southwest of Kalispell and features some spectacular views, along with 7.5 miles of trails, a beautiful interpretive center, picnic shelter and community room, which are both available to rent. There's also a volleyball court, and recently-upgraded archery range.

And Lone Pine State Park will also host the Great Easter Egg Hunt, Saturday, April 16. The hunt is divided up into four sessions: 11:00 a.m., noon, 1:00 p.m., and 2:00 p.m. In addition to the "scramble" for eggs, other fun activities will go on after the hunt.

There is no charge, but registration is required. To register your kids, call the Visitor Center at (406) 755-2706, Extension 0. You will only be allowed to sign up for one session, please. Children need their own Easter baskets or bags to collect eggs.

There were no details available for the kids' age ranges. That would be a good question to ask when you book a time. Participants will meet at the picnic shelter before walking on a short 30-minute loop to search for Easter eggs. Make sure you dress for whatever the fickle weather can bring to northwest Montana in mid-April.

There are a number of other April events planned at Flathead Lake State Park's six unique park units.

Also on April 16, 8:30 p.m., a park ranger will guide you on an April full moon 1.5-mile hike of the Wayfarers Unit of Flathead Lake State Park. This hike offers a unique way to experience your local trails and the shore of Flathead Lake. Please bring headlamps, sturdy hiking shoes, water, snacks, and warm clothes (camera is optional). The cost is $4 and reservations are required. Call the ranger station at 406-837-3041 ext. 0 to reserve a spot.

Friday, April 22, the annual Lyrid Meteor shower, one of the oldest meteor shower, will be back this year with a partial moon allowing the possibility to see a few meteors. A viewing party will be headquartered at Lone Pine State Park. There will be a short hike to learn more about meteor showers, then return to the visitor center parking lot for viewing. Call the visitor center at (406) 755-2706 Ext. 0 to register, as space is limited. Cost is free ($8 park entry fee still applies to out-of-state vehicles).

Here's to clear skies and a joyous Easter!
