The Disney Channel has decided to cancel its Descendants 3 red carpet event in the wake of Cameron Boyce's death. Instead, the company will donate money to a charity that was near and dear to the actor's heart.

“We’re proud to be part of Cameron Boyce’s legacy by showcasing his talents on screen, but we are cancelling the red carpet premiere event for Descendants 3 (scheduled for July 22),” a statement reads. “And instead, The Walt Disney Company will make a donation to the Thirst Project, a philanthropic organization to which Cameron was deeply committed."

The Thirst project “is a nonprofit organization that works with the support of young people to END the global water crisis by building freshwater wells in developing communities that need safe, clean drinking water,” according to the organization's website.

Descendants 3 is set to premiere on the Disney Channel August 2, and the telecast will be dedicated to Boyce, who plays Carlos — the son of Cruella de Vil — in the movie series.

The Disney star died in his sleep over the weekend after suffering a fatal seizure caused by an ongoing battle with epilepsy. He was only 20 years old.

Since his passing, celebrities and co-stars have been paying tribute to the young actor. His Descendants co-star Dove Cameron recently shared an emotional series of videos mourning the loss of her colleague and friend.

Boyce's father, Victor, recently shared a photo of his son taken "just hours" before his death. "My son. Just hours before he was snatched from our lives," he captioned the candid picture. "I miss him terribly. I hope that no one ever has to feel the agony I’m feeling but no one is immune to tragedy. The outpouring of love and support our family continues to receive is so beautiful and appreciated. Thank you all for helping us through our worst possible situation."
