We Missoulians love our beer, and this Saturday is arguably beer’s biggest day in Missoula.

The 20th annual Garden City Brewfest will take place from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday, May 5, in Caras Park. This year’s event serves as the culmination of the inaugural Missoula Craft Beer Week, which celebrated local brews with a weeklong schedule of special events.

Brewfest is one of my favorite Missoula events. Not only is it super affordable, but also it is super popular. Even if you don’t have a date, you’re bound to bump into someone you know as you weave through the masses during your beer-sampling adventure.

More than 60 beers will be on tap. For just $10, you will receive a 7-ounce souvenir tasting glass and two drink tokens. Additional tokens only cost $1 apiece. So, for $20, you can sample 12 different beers. Now that’s what I call a “beer”gain. (No? Well, I thought it was pretty clever.)

This is definitely an event where it pays to show up early, as there is a limited supply of each brew and the most popular varieties tend to go pretty quickly.

If the impressive variety of beers isn’t enough of a draw for you, the entertainment line-up might just convince you to make an appearance. Live music will be provided by Russ Nasset and the Revelators, Lil Smokies and Sick Kids XOXO.
