Big Plans Announced for Former Lucky’s Location in Missoula

Whenever a business announces that it'll be closing we start to play the "what will take its spot?" game. The old Shopko is now WinCo. Fuddruckers was leveled and gave birth to a credit union and a just-opened Firehouse Subs. The Pier 1 Imports building was finally torn down last month as a Chick-fil-A will eventually take its place. And now it looks like the mystery has been solved for what will take over the old Lucky's Market at Southgate Mall.

Are you a Hobby Lobby fan?

I thought my wife was going to break into cartwheels when I told her that plans are in place for Hobby Lobby to come to Missoula. The store is probably at the top of the list when it comes to places she wishes we had in town. Missoula will join Kalispell, Helena, Billings, and Great Falls on the list of Montana locations for the arts and crafts supplies store. It might be good news for her.....but it'll definitely be bad news for our bank account!

News broke late last week that Southgate Mall obtained a building permit for a remodel of the old Lucky's building and a Missoulian article says the plans include renovations as well as additions to the building.

But when will we actually see a new Hobby Lobby?

There isn't much known as far as plans and a timeline right now. Of course, the building is currently being used as a COVID-19 vaccination center and will probably remain busy with the addition of booster shots and the approval of vaccines for children ages 5-11.

We'll definitely keep you in the loop when we hear about any actual movement that starts to take place with bringing a new Hobby Lobby to Southgate Mall.

No more market at Lucky's

Oh, and if you haven't heard, the Missoula Valley Winter Market had already announced that the market won't be held in the Lucky's building like it was last year. They've moved to The Concourse, near the SCHEELS entrance, inside the mall.
