It's a bummer to see this announcement. After almost 50 years Big Brothers Big Sisters of Missoula will be shutting down at the end of the month. The nonprofit organization which pairs mentors with children announced it would cease operations on May 31st.  Their website says they began with Big Brothers in Missoula in 1970 and added Big Sisters five years later.

BBBS sent emails and notified mentors that the end of the program was fast approaching.  This comes after a post to their Facebook page last month gave the hint of financial troubles.

The post from March 22nd stated "Our organization is going through a critical time and needs your help".  It also mentioned the program had suffered cuts in funding over the last two years but they hoped fundraising would help with operating costs for the next year.

It appears those plans have drastically changed.  BBBS was scheduled to have a fundraising event on June 7th.  It's not known what the plans for the event will be after today's news.
