AMC Theatres Opening Pushed Back Once Again

The weather has been nice the last few weeks. Sitting at the new Big Dipper Ice Cream location a couple times I couldn't help but look over at the lonely AMC parking lot. Seeing the empty box office and blank spaces where movie posters should be, always makes me wonder when we'll get on the other side of COVID-19 and be able to resume so many activities that were once considered normal.

Stop us if you've heard this one before! AMC Theatres has announced that they'll once again postpone the planned opening of U.S. movie theaters. If that sounds familiar it's because they've already set proposed opening dates twice and have had to readjust based on where the country stands with the coronavirus pandemic. The latest attempt was to have theaters open on July 30th (after a two week delay from an original plan of July 15th.) The new plan calls for at least another two week delay as they've set a target range for theaters to now open in mid-to-late August.

A press release this morning mentioned upcoming movie releases are also being affected by the increasing number of COVID-19 cases:

This new timing reflects currently expected release dates for much anticipated blockbusters like Warner Bros.' TENET and Disney's MULAN, as well as release dates for several other new movies coming to AMC's big screens.

As we mentioned the last time AMC announced their delay - there are still a couple ways to scratch your movie itch in Missoula. You can rent a theater room for private showings at The Roxy and you can watch movies on the field at Ogren Park with Centerfield Cinema every Thursday night through the summer.
