Each year around this time, Missoulians welcome the return of bears and bees, but white squirrels? Well, this is a first! Numerous sightings of the furry, colorless little creatures have been reported near the downtown area and has the community buzzing.

Have you seen a White Squirrel?

As legend has it, White Squirrels arrived here over 50 years ago via a circus truck. Now this story gets even stranger as most sightings are found usually in the mid-east states, very rarely found on this side of America.

Although the cute creature's exact origin is undocumented, the White Squirrel have thrived over the years and today are seen in significant numbers in the parks and treed residential areas. The White Squirrel is not an albino, but is white with brown or black eyes.

So if you ever see a White Squirrel in downtown Missoula, don’t think you’re “going nuts.” Just be sure to bring along a camera to prove it! And share your story in the comment section below.
