Missoula police are investigating the death of a 22 year-old man from a gunshot wound that occurred late Friday night.

Sergeant Bob Campbell said the call came in to 9-1-1 just before midnight.

“Shortly before midnight Friday night officers responded to a residence in the 1600 block of Wyoming Street for the report of a discharge of a firearm,” said Campbell. “On scene we learned that a male subject who was 22 years of age sustained a gunshot wound. He was transported to St. Patrick Hospital and at some point later that night or early Saturday morning he did pass away at the hospital.”

Campbell said the investigation into the circumstances of the young man’s death is ongoing.

“We’re still conducting the investigation in conjunction with the Coroner’s office at Missoula County Sheriff’s Office,” he said. “We do not believe there is any danger to the general public and we are not looking for any suspects or other involved parties.”

Campbell could not say if anyone else was involved in the shooting.

“We are looking at it as the discharge of a firearm insofar as we do not believe that this was the result of any sort of disturbance or argument that took place,” he said. “It’s still too early in the process of our investigation to say precisely what had transpired.”

No name will be released by the Sheriff and Coroner T.J. McDermott until the individual’s family has been notified.
