We may not have a big, sparkly ball of lights to ooh and ahh over as we count down to 2012, but the New Year’s Eve event line-up in Missoula is chock-full of fun and entertainment. Here’s the rundown on what’s going on.

First Night Missoula

This is a big one, with shows and activities beginning as early as 9 a.m. and running all the way through midnight. For an advance price of $12 (or $15 on Dec. 31), attendees will receive a button that serves as an admission ticket for 80-plus events — including live music — in more than 30 locations around town.

Featured events include the Children’s Parade of Hats at 1 p.m. at Southgate Mall (masks and decorations will be available), ice carving on the courthouse lawn throughout the day, the First Night High School Talent Competition at 8 p.m. at the Wilma Theatre (requires an extra $2 admission) and the grand finale show featuring the Ed Norton Big Band and the Drum Brothers at the University Center.
